![]() The yogic powers of Sadguru Sai Baba of Shirdi are well known. However, no one knows the depth and extent to which Sai Baba was versed with the powers. He seemed to possess all and He seemed to exhibit them whenever necessary without much ado. It is said that 'Siddhis’ or the supernatural powers stand with folded hands at the door of those who established mastery over their senses, conquered his/her "prana", singularly devoted to the Lord and whose conscious is ever with oneself. Yoga-Sutras classifies Siddhis into three categories depending on their magnanimity. There are altogether twenty three siddhis belonging to these three categories, great, medium, and minor. The eight great Siddhis include Anima (ability to reduce one’s form to the level of an atom), Mahima (ability to make the body heavy), Laghima (ability to make the body light), Prapti (ability to acquire objects of sense pertaining to the respective organs), Prakashya (ability to see and know invisible things), Ishita (ability to stimulate other creatures and bodies), Vashita (ability to have supremacy over senses), and Yatkamastadavasyathi (the power to obtain joys of all the world by mere willing. This leads to the state of highest bliss through ending all desires). It is very rare that a great soul would possess all these eight siddhis. Sai Baba had all the above-mentioned siddhis and more. Sometimes His actions were a combination of two or more siddhis that went beyond the normal nomenclature provided in the Yoga literature. Sai Baba used these powers only when necessary as if to conform to a higher cosmic order that humans did not understand. Sometimes He manifested Himself at a place to attend to the calls of His devotees while at other times He exercised from a distance His will to control the happenings in the lives of those who had faith in His supreme. Mrs. Manager, a Parsee devotee of Bombay who had visited Sai Baba many times during 1910-1915 noted,

Experiences of Devotees
I have had several miraculous experiences in my life and I attribute them to Saibaba. I would like to share one of my recent experiences. Four months ago, I decided to take part in a race per one of my friend’s suggestion. She has had several years of experience in doing this race while this was my first. She was very much willing to help me with the training and she did.
We had a great training schedule and it all went well until the last three weeks before the race. I started having problems that I did not know the cause of. I just did not feel even close to how I was feeling prior to this. In fact, it kept getting worst. I was really worried since my family and I had invested so much in me succeeding this challenge. Moreover my friends and colleagues were quite aware of me doing this and it was a question of embarrassment should I have to drop out. I did not know what I was going to do. All along, my friend and I were making plans to finish the race together. This seemed impossible since I could not even do 1/4th of the race without having problems while my friend was getting stronger every day. At this point, I talked to Baba, told him how important this is for me, and asked if he could help me. As always, like Baba says, "If you look to me I look to you", he immediately heard my prayer and I started feeling better. In fact, in the last issue of Sai Vichaar, I had read about how we don't need to take any medicine if we have faith in Baba- Vibhuti (udi). I stopped taking any pain-related medicine and until now, I have still not taken one, even after my race. We started our race and half way into the race, my pain started again. I told Baba to please continue to help me. Like a miracle, my pain disappeared. I had a desire to finish the race with my friend and she was quite a bit ahead of me so I had no hope that I would be able to.
As I got close to the finish, all of a sudden I saw my friend next to me. I could not believe my eyes since she was so much ahead of me all along. We both finished together in the time we had desired. It was a pure example of another one of Baba's miracle. I can not thank Him enough for helping me and my family every every step of the way. I can go on and on describing how in the day-to-day life Baba comes to my rescue like he is always there, you just have to call upon him.

Everything went well for some time but then bad times befell the Kingdom. The King was at his wits end and one day decided to end his life. Just before throwing himself from the ramparts of his fort, he remembered the envelope given by the Guru. If there ever was a time for the Guru's advice, it was now. He rushed to his secret hiding place and opened the envelope with trembling hands. There was a small piece of paper inside. On it, the Guru had written, "This, too, shall pass!" Everything is transitory, Jyoti. Do not lose patience. Your bad times will pass, like everything else. Remember, Sai Baba asks for only two things. Faith and patience. In addition, one more thing - no soul is bad. Remember that you spring from the same source as Baba does. Do not forget this and seek the blessing of Sai Baba as one does from a kind father. There is no need to give up. All of us are with you. Prasad GLV
