Feature of the week:
Scientist of the Soul
Mankind has achieved an immeasurable growth in the way it has molded its life. As the most intelligent species in the universe, at least as evident at this point in time, human race has come a long way in looking at itself and its surroundings. Advances made in every category of rational knowledge has resulted in the manner our physical lives exist today. While people have responded to the science of physical nature for their betterment, the same can not be said about the attempts to quench the yearning beyond our physical boundaries. Difficult times lead one to question those factors beyond our reasoning, while good times do not have that quest as a priority. The ingenuity of the scientists of physical world has bettered our lives and may be by doing so, has also distanced ourselves from the conscious within us. The quest to seek the conscious within for reasoning the unknown is like a dying fire that has to be fuelled. The fire is kept alive by appearance of realized souls from time to time, as if conforming to a plan unknown to humanity. Sadguru Sai Baba is one such soul that appeared as a spark at the dawn of this century. The spark has steadily grown into a beacon that shines light in the lives of innumerable people that has faith in Him. His Holiness Shri Narasimhaswamiji wrote in his "Glimpses of Sai Baba" that seers like Sainath of Shirdi are scientists of the soul. These Scientists in their own way kindle and re-kindle the quest to know the within and thus help realize the purpose life may have. The scientist of Shirdi is unique in His own way. He stood with everyone, stayed beyond the divisions of caste and religion. He stood out as the unifying force common to all, like the sky, moon, light, and water

It was on 3rd February 1998. I was about to complete an article on Sai Baba. I heard a sharp rap at the gate of my house. I shouted; who is there?” Promptly the reply came: "Khaana Lav" (give me food). From where I sat, I could not see him. Nevertheless, I called my wife to serve food to him. She bought rice and dhal but oddly, he did not have anything on him to receive it. My wife did not feel like serving in the plate she brought. So she came back to the house, took a small cardboard and served the fare on it outside the gate. He sat on his haunches preparatory to eating. Meanwhile, my wife came inside to fetch water for him. It did not take a couple of minutes for her to do so. But the stranger was not to be seen anywhere. There were telltale marks of his having taken the food. He did not even wash his hands. It was impossible to eat the food, that too without water, and walk away out of sight in less than a couple of minutes. It was then the truth hit me like a whiplash. I should have known much better when he said, "Khaana laav". It was truly a command. Even during his begging rounds sometimes, Sai Baba never begged. He simply commanded, "Lassie, roti laav". I asked my wife as to how he looked like. She said, "He was lean aged and looked like a village Muslim of the old order, with a sharp beard. He was wearing a faded green lungi with brownish checks on it and a soiled white long-sleeved kurtha with a black vest on it. His head was turbaned leaving the top crown open". Though the description did not actually tally with that of Sai Baba, I was by then more than convinced who He was. I cursed myself because the food that was served was overnight food and served on cardboard outside the gate. Later when I slowly composed myself, I went into the pooja room and begged His pardon for my lapse. At that stage my own conscience began to reply, "Your repentance is enough for me. Keep on feeding the hungry, who come to your doorstep, as best as you can. Believe me, charity especially that of food, is indeed a great spiritual virtue".

Today is the first time I browsed on the Internet and visited this site and when I went through the latest newsletter dated Feb 11 1999, my eyes filled with tears. I am a married woman with 10 years of married life but no blossoms in our garden, I mean children. I believe in Shirdi Sai, as my Father, Friend, Philosopher, and Guide Eternal. I carry him in my heart rather he carries me in His. Today I was so depressed about my ill health of not being able to have a child and when I read the newsletter, I was touched reading the story of the woman from Hyderabad about Sai's blessings. My love to that little Sai Sanketh and prayers to the Lord to give us one too. I was touched because that newsletter came as a solace to my heart. I feel it was Sainath who made me look into this and find peace at heart. Thank you so much Baba, only a person in my position can understand the joy I feel this moment. Om Sai Sree Sai Jaya Jaya Sai. We love you Shirdi Sai forever and ever; we need you to be with us forever and ever. Peggy Dear Sai Baba, I have just recently come across your path in my search for healing. Your name was mentioned in a tape I have listened to by Carolyn Myss and I found very intrigued by the way in which she spoke of you. I went to a local bookstore to request a book of you and they did not have a one. All I knew was your name and really had no information of you except this very short segment on the tape about ashes. I have since run across a book called "Revelations: The Wisdom of the Ages".
