Sai Vichaar is approaching its first anniversary in a few weeks ! Thank you all for your kind support and patronage. One of the ways of serving Sai is to spread His message through media such as Sai Vichaar. It is our experience that electronic media such as a our Shirdi Sai web site and Sai Vichaar by e-mail are very efficient means of communication as evident by the growing global participation. Sai Vichaar once again urges its readers and Sai devotees to give their feed back on the type of features Sai Vichaar should be focussing on. Your contributions in the form of writing for features are always welcome. Please send your contributions to the administrator, Shirdi Sai web site organization.

Thank you for your support for the Question of the Week feature. This feature is intended to initiate useful discussion on topics related to Sai philosophy, His message, and Sai devotion. Please send your suggested topics for the same by writing to the web site administrator. Responses for "Question of the week" has no time deadline. Sai Vichaar requests the readers and devotees contributing to various features to kindly give some details about themselves. Sai Vichaar respects the right to one’s privacy and if anonymity is required, it is acceptable. However, giving a few more details such as the place and country of origin will be very useful for other devotees, especially for those who would like to contact a particular devotee for whatever the reason may be. We hope that readers and devotees will understand and oblige. Sai Vichaar is very thankful to those devotees for sharing with us all their experiences with Sai Samarth.

Feature of the week: The Essence of Spirituality

Minocher K. Spencer was a great Yogi and a spiritualist who lived in Karachi, Pakistan. Yogi M.K. Spencer is considered a great soul who attained the highest of spiritual realization. Between 3-11-1952 and 18-2-1953, Sadguru Sai Baba, the supreme spirit, dictated 77 rarest of the rare kind of discourses or divine messages to Yogi M.K. Spencer in his vision. Out of them, four most relevant messages are given for the enlightenment of Sai devotees and spiritual seekers all over the world.

1. Renunciation is the essence of spirituality

Think of the indwelling spirit and not the body that is frail and subject to decay. It is the spirit alone, that is eternal, all else is ephemeral and transitory. Bodily indulgence is an obstacle to spiritual growth and progress. Care should be taken of the body, for it is the temple of the soul, but in no case, bodily enjoyment be mistaken for spirituality. The body, the senses and the mind are to be curbed in order to cut asunder the inner sheets which cover the soul and make it a prisoner.

Renunciation is the essence of spirituality. Annihilate all desires and kill the ego in you. Be sturdy and strong like the oak in the jungle and stand fast against all tempests of temptations. Listen to the voice of conscience for it is your best inward monitor.

Work and worship go together. Work is the essence of life, but it should not be the purpose of enjoying the fruit of your labor. The laborer seeks his hire, but the true YOGI discards it. He works for the sake of work, to spread God’s love and light and not for selfish gain. He works in the name of God for growth of spirit and not for his satisfaction of carnal desires. Work is worship, when it is concentrated and dedicated to God. Be a Karma Yogi by keeping the fire of love and devotion for God burning in you all the time.

Experiences of Devotees

Shri C.B. Satpathy ji is well known devotee of Sadguru Sainath. Revered as Guru ji by his followers, Satpathy ji is instrumental in establishing several Sai Centers and construction of Sai temples India. This week, Sai Vichaar would like to feature Shri Satpathy ji’s message given to his followers earlier this year:

The easiest way to spiritual evolution is to:
1.Believe that the Sadguru is the Divine incarnation to lead people towards temporal and spiritual development.
2.To follow the path laid down by Him as reflected in His earthly conduct and preaching.
3.To understand that no man how much ever he strives, can evolve in the spiritual field beyond a certain limit without the help and kindness of a Sadguru. Even incarnations like Shri Krishna and Shri Rama, in the process of experiencing the God state in Them, had to be helped by Sandeepani and Vasishta, the Sadgurus of the time.
4.To focus the entire spiritual consciousness on the Sadgurus, both in Sakara (formed) or Nirakar (formless) and worship them.
5.To believe that the Guru is the repositor of all Divine powers -and therefore, He alone should be made the mainstay of one's life. All needs, worries and questions should be projected to him

Experience has shown that people devoted to Sadgurus, evolve faster in the spiritual field than those following other methods because such devotees believe in surrender to divinity which is the ultimate requirement for spiritual evolution. Every devotee of Shirdi Sai, therefore, on this New Year, should decide whether he wants to hold Baba as his 'Ishta' - the only one to be prayed, worshipped and called in time of need. Personally, for me Shri Sai is the only and ultimate. I don't seek anything from elsewhere.

Who would like to join me?
C.B. Satpathy

Devotees say...

Sarika
Dear Sai, I always used to feel that you do not listen to my prayers or answer me! but now I realize that you do so but only when the time is right! I always keep on asking you to help me and you continuously do so regardless of my wrong doings! God, today I want to thank you for all you have given to me! April 8 was my birthday and I want to thank you for such a wonderful day that I had! Devotees, I beg of you to humbly pray for me to our God, Sai Baba! I have so many tensions that I have to deal with every day but I continue to go through the pressures with the firm faith that one day Baba will let everything fall in the right place! I listen to a bhajan of Baba and the words are:
DHEERAJ RAKH WOH REHEMAT KI, BARKA BARSA BHI DEGA
JIS SAI NE DARD DIYA HEIN WOHI DAWA BHI DEGA!
If you understand the meaning of this, it is very soothing to the heart and mind! I just want to pray for Baba to continue giving me the strength to go through every day of my life until the right time comes and he decides to give me what I want or what I deserve! MAY HIS BLESSINGS BE SHOWERED ON ALL! Sai Ram

Prayer Club

G D Sharma
Our son Aditya, aged about 10 years now, has been in bed in a semi-conscious state. He underwent a surgery after suffering from a brain hemorrhage on December 18, 1997. He was initially on the ventilator (for breathing) and the ryles tube (for feeds). He was also in a state of coma. However, he has now come a long way from that state. He is wide awake and goes to sleep like anyone of us. We are now able to feed him with the help of a spoon. He cries to express his displeasure or discomfort. In January 1998 and again in January 1999 I was at Shirdi and Baba gave us a lot of comfort and hope. The visit this year was a lot more rewarding and satisfying. I request all of you, my dear Sai devotees, to include Aditya in your prayers and seek the grace of Sadguru Sainath of Shirdi.

Question of the Week

“What is true service?”

Mukesh
Sai Ram Dearest Family, True Service is Service done with a Pure Loving Heart and can be to anything anyone be it Man Animal or even plant. This is what I BELIEVE.

M.N. Reddy, San Jose, CA, USA
A true service is a selfless service which is done without expecting any reward in turn. There should not be any ego while doing the service. If there is any element of ego while doing the service, even the person receiving the seva will not be comfortable. The opportunity for doing the service, the financial position we are in, the job we have are all given by Sai. By doing ego-less service we are trying to give it back to Sai. We must try to see Sai in all the living beings and while doing service, think that we are doing service to none other than Sai.

Soma Somalingam, Lakembe, Australia
Love All Serve All. Sai Ram, Any Action performed with faith in god, to the benefit of others, without expecting any materialistic reward to thyself, but only expecting Gods grace and the divine love from fellow human beings, animals, plants and the nature can be called as "true Service". In this service, if thought, word and deed harmonizes the service becomes an offering. Ram Ram Ram Sai Ram. May God Bless every one. With Love Always and Faith Always.

Manish Saxena
jai Sai ram! true service means to help someone who is in trouble, someone who cannot .afford for his wellbeing, to share whatever we have with god by doing so. We should not be unkind to all human beings or should not hurt anybody whether mentally or physically. let all live in peace and merry.

Anil Safaya
True Service Means :
S : Selflessness, E : Experience of Divinity, R : Rati i.e Love, V : Vision Of Lord in those being served, I : Integrity of Thought, Word & Action, C : Compassion, and E : Excitement
This in my view is the definition of true seva or service.
