![]() ![]() Feature of the week: The Perfect One Sai Baba of Shirdi was proficient in several Yogic practices and His accomplishments are still not completely deciphered. The missing years before the Lord showed up in Shirdi is yet to be accounted for. In fact, His simplicity was deceptively dissuading to even great saadhakas that approached Shirdi. The stories of Megha and Somdev are two such examples. However, myth shattered, these great men did not waste a minute and had good fortunes of having enlisted in His Kingdom. Rarely did Baba led His followers into His physical self, be it the Dhauthi that dismayed some of the accidental onlookers or the proficiency in Sri Mad BhagavadGita Nana had seen for himself. Abdul did mention that Baba used to recite Kalma and other versed in Urdu. He also depicts incidents where Baba chatted with Moslem scholars, although such events were rare in Shirdi and probably have not been always recorded. No Mantras chanted and no benediction pronounced. He did not prescribe any Asanas, neither he approved fasting. Initiation may have a different connotation in spiritual world. But Baba's magic then and now has drawn several to His mystic self. Whether one would call this initiation or divine call, it is a fortune, a blessing to be revered. He is Rama the king, He is Krishna the thief (the Great one that stole butter), He is Mohammed, the Prophet, and the Messaih Jesus. Let us on this holy day reaffirm our faith to the Simple One, and the Perfect One and contemplate on His self.

While divinity is beyond life and death and God's manifestations do not fall into the human categorization of living and dying, it is always intriguing to explore the physical nature of God's manifestation. A saadhaka's intense attachment to sadguru's form makes him long to seek he Sadguru physically as far as possible. Hindu tradition shows Narada and Markandeya are chiranjeevis, always alive. It was being said that Arunachala in Tiruvannamalai has living sadhus doing meditation. Theosophists believe that their leaders guide them as spirits from Himalayas. Paramahamsa Yoganand's guru Yukteswar always talked of His guru hundred years old appeared to him at Calcutta now and then. Why should we Shirdi Sai devotees doubt His living or blessing us with His grace? How did our Guru live? He had one cloth, stayed in Dwarakamayi, and was surrounded by only poor people in the village. His grace flowed on them. Though there were rich devotees like Booty, most of His devotees were from middle class and lower middle class. He looked after all with one Grace without distinction. He was not like those Saints and Yogis who charge fees for their teaching in some form or other, except asking Dakshina of small amounts. Such was is grace. He treated Hindus and Muslims alike. He never had any distinction typical of realized soul and siddhapurusha. Thus, His much splendor glory flowed and flows on those who have faith and patience. OM SAIRAM
Ragini P N Krishnamurthy,Chennai A Sai Devotee First, why does you husband restrict calls home to twice a month? Is it because the financial situation is that bad? If not, or if you and your husband differ in your opinion on this, is it not possible to discuss your feeling of loneliness with home and come to an arrangement? Maybe the calling card would be a cheaper option which will make your husband comfortable with more frequent calls - I am assuming that his objection is purely on financial grounds. If his objection is so vehement that you are contemplating taking a decision and hiding it from him, won't things become even worse if he comes to know of it later? Just my thoughts, and hope you find some amicable and satisfactory solution. A Sai devotee Pradip Prasad Koirala Lakshmi Sekhar,Hyderabad,India Baba... You are my father.. Quotation of the Week
Q. Why did Baba discourage the practice of Yoga at the same time was seen performing Yogic practices such as Khanda Yoga and Dhauti? A. by Sai Devotee A. Sai Ram. Baba discouraged yoga only for those who were trying to develop special Siddhis or powers, which He knew would obstruct their further spiritual progress. He was a Master, Who has crossed that stage a long ago and Siddhis never troubled Him. Through Khanda Yoga, Baba wanted to convey to us that duality is an illusion, i.e. the feeling of separateness from each other and from our Guru/God is due to our accumulated layers of Avidya. Each of us is like a limb/atom in God's body of this Universe! And each of us are in the right place! Baba showed that not only He could separate all the different parts of His body, but also, more importantly could put them all back together correctly like putting the various pieces of a jigsaw puzzle. Baba has solved the puzzle of life long ago! Through Dhauti, Baba showed that one must keep the outside and inside of the physical, mental and spiritual bodies clean, like a temple, so that it is fit for Sri Hari to reside. He said in reply to Das Ganu Maharaj's statement that he will do the Nama Saptah, if he was assured of Vithal Darsan at the end of the Saptah; "Certainly Vitthal would appear; but for that the devotee must be 'earnest and devout'. The Dankapuri (Takore) of Dakurnath, the Pandari of Vitthal, the Dwaraka of Ranchod (Krishna) is here (Shirdi). One need not go far out to see Dwaraka. Will Vitthal come here from some outside place? He is here. Only when the devotee is bursting with love and devotion, Vitthal will manifest Himself here (Shirdi)." Page 19, Sai Satcharitra, English version by Sri Gunaji. Love and devotion to our Sadguru are the purifying processes in us. If Baba desired, He would have ensured that no mortal could see His yogic practices. Like He never allowed anyone to see, how He got onto and from the plank suspended so high and when devotees started spying on Him, He simply broke the plank into pieces and through it away (or probably in the Dhuni?)! That He allowed these two yogic practices to be seen implied that He wanted to convey some important spiritual instruction through them. A. by Srinivasan Radhakrishnan A. Arjun Yadavalli " In order to travel from one place to another, you need to know two things. One being the impetus or the reason we want to go there and two, the way to get there. The way to get there is shown to us by the Guru. We need to have faith in him and just tread his path. But the impetus to do the job should come from within. All the yoga, yagnyas and other auspicious activities are good and were developed to make this journey as easy as possible. But in general people spend more time and energy finding out how these yogas are performed rather than understanding WHY." That may be the reason He forbade most of his devotees from taking a cue from his yogic activities. He was more satisfied to see them devote their whole and undividing faith in Him and try to get to know, WHY they have to do what they are doing.
