Feature of the week: HAS SRI SAI BABA REINCARNATED NOW? Reincarnation of almost every one is a well-known fact-never doubted by Hindus. The person born is sure to die and the person dead is sure to be reborn. It is to escape the pain and sorrow of repeated and endless rebirths (known as Samsara) that people aspire through Jnana and Bhakti. This escape is termed is `Moksha'. Hence, Paramagnanis and Parama Bhaktas are the exceptions to the above rule stated in the Gita. Sri Sai Baba is admitted by all who know the facts about him to be a Jnani and Bhakta of the highest order, whose Jnana was evidenced by his laya in the Supreme Brahman, and expressed by his "Main Allah Hum" i.e., Aham Brahmasmi. He had shed his ego and could and did truthfully say, "I have done nothing, I receive nothing"-when his body did or received something. He had no Karma Vasana to pull him back to the Earth, once he left it. But to this exception about Jnanis and Parama Bhaktas, there is an exception. That is, those such saints as may choose rebirth may be born again. These are the Apantaratmas who may, if they choose, not to appear in the flesh for a long time, after their departure and may suddenly reappear in a fleshy body and disappear at pleasure. Sai Baba is an Apantaratma. He might reincarnate at will. That is a possibility. As for the probability of such reincarnation, there are several indications favoring it. First Baba passed away in Dakshinayana (and the Gita says such souls will be born again). Secondly, he himself mentioned several times that he would reincarnate. He was requested by a Bombay young man to look after him in the next three births, those being the final births of that young man. Baba promised to take birth and be with him birth after birth. Baba made a very similar promise to a North Indian Judge. He also said in the presence of Sri Bapu Rao Chandorkar, that he would be born as the son of Bapu. Sri H.S.Dixit said that Baba, to the knowledge of several devotees, said that he would reappear as a boy of eight years. These statements show that Sri Sai Baba may reappear in the flesh. But has he come? Whenever there is an expectation of a great prophet a saint appearing in the flesh, a number of persons come forward with the claim that each of them is the expected Avatar. As Sai Baba promised to reincarnate, we have a crop of claimants averring that each of them is Sai Avatar. Several people of the Madras Presidency and Bombay Presidency have been informed of the existence of such "avatars" and these cases have been investigated. So far, no well-informed and well-known Sai Bhaktas have discovered any real incarnation of Sri Sai Baba, amongst these claimants. In the first place, no one has been discovered who from the age of eight exhibits the remarkable traits of Sri Sai's personality. Next, none of these claimants is sons of any Bapu. Thirdly, none of the claimants has shown even a hundredth part of Sri Sai Baba's pure, truthful, loving, sympathetic and all-knowing nature and not even a tiny fraction of Sri Sai's wonderful siddhis. Where these do not appear in a claimant, that man's claim should be rejected without hesitation. It is not intended by this article to denounce as imposters all that say "I am Sai Baba" or "I am Brahman", without possessing the qualification mentioned above. These slogans or formula may be uttered by a Sadhaka with a purpose. The ultimate truth is that the devotee or sadhaka and the Guru Sai are the same. Baba used to say so. The goal is reached by the Sadhaka by constantly rubbing the ideal into himself. As a man thinketh, so he will become. So some people, not very much advanced spiritually, do say "I am He. He is I. I am God (Siva)". Sai, like Siva, is a name for God with most Bhaktas. Sai Baba recommended it to several devotees that they should constantly think of Him and merge in Him. All that is unobjectionable. Similarly, if any one though not spiritually very high is regarded by others as their guru, they will be acting rightly in identifying that guru with Sai Baba or God and receive pooja etc., that is offered to God. This is unobjectionable, as it is ordained in the Sastras. What is objectionable is that any of the above persons should proclaim to the entire Hindu public that he or his guru is, in point of fact, an incarnation of God or of Sri Sai Baba and must be treated as such by the public. It is only this claim that has been dealt with in this article. (Editorial in All India Sai Samaj's "Sai Sudha (June 1944)"by Pujyasri BV Narasimhaswami)

Satsangatve Nissangatvam Meaning: Substance: Commentary: Desire and attachment are the cause of delusion and delusion leads to confusion. As the mind ceases to agitate, internal purity ensues. At this stage, one reaches the state of equilibrium and enjoys divine peace. It is a step-by-step struggle like the elements of good slowly occupies the place vacated by the elements of bad and evil thoughts, as one occupies oneself in Satsangat. So, one must always cherish the company of the devotees of God to attain salvation at the end. At the same time, one should not indulge in criticism of others, who do not believe in God or who are not devotees, as despise them would be arrogance. One day they also change the path and they must also receive the grace of God. The hearts of those devotees should melt for the welfare of those who do not believe in God. We must grieve for those who are not blessed with devotion. If a person, who is not genuinely distressed at the sufferings and pain of others, is not a godly person at all. Of course, it is very difficult for a beginner, to understand, appreciate and put into practice such noble intentions. Sri Adi Sankaracharya, having understood this practical difficulty of the beginners in devotion, has given a ladder-of-progress; by carefully climbing which, a seeker can comfortably reach the pinnacle of perfection.
In spite of all this discussion, the fact remains that we are living in the midst of tremendous temptations of life, whether it is amassing wealth or running after women or artificial life or pretentious postures, etc. The objects of fascination are so numerous and their enchantments are so powerful that it is too difficult to resist and fight against. It is, therefore, advised by Sri Adi Sankaracharya to keep company of good people or look always for Satsangat. Only with good thoughts from within one cannot keep on fighting against the predating bad habits of this life and prarabdha of earlier lives. One has to fight against the hordes of temptations every day, at the same time, and for that one has to look for association with the good people. Such a company will infuse sufficient power so as to erect a strong fortress around oneself against the magic of the world outside.
As one progresses in this path, one discovers in oneself the rays of light of detachment, i.e., Nissangatvam. When all the false values are removed from their roots with one pointed sadhana, the mind mellows down its tricks of enticing with the worldly objects and slowly starts listening to the inner voice. The mind starts seeing the things in their right perspective. When such an understanding firmly establishes in oneself, the individual inches towards God or Realization. This is how a sadhaka reaches his origin or his roots by following the prescribed step-by-step progress in sadhana, i.e., Satsangatvam, Nissangatvam, Nirmohatvam, Nischalatattvam and Jeevanmukti.
Smita Prasad After I went to Vizag after my first visit to Shirdi, I wished to have Sai Bhajans at my home, but my father disagreed for his reasons I am not surely aware of. So, the second time I went to Shirdi, I prayed to Baba to allow me to have a Bhajan at my home in Florida. On 2 Jan, I had a wonderful experience at Shirdi. I bought many pictures of Baba to be able to distribute it among people here hoping I could have a bhajan. That night, I decided to get some Udi too, I wanted around 40 Udi packets. But at the window, the person at the counter said that I could not have more than a maximum of two packets. If I wanted more I had to get permission from some official at the Mandir. I went up to the Mandir, and asked the sentry on guard to allow me into the mandir's office, to which he refused and asked me why, when I said that I needed permission for extra udi, he sent me to another office and asked me to get permission from an official whose name I cant recall. When I went there, the officer had already left. So I went back to the sentry and pleaded with him to let me in. He refused, I told him that I was returning to the states the next day and needed to get some extra Udi to distribute, but he still refused. I then made a silent prayer to Baba. I said to Baba that if he wills that I have a puja at my home, he certainly would allow me to get some Udi. At that very moment the sentry said that he would allow me to talk with someone inside the mandir through a locked grill gate and if then the official gives me permission, then he would allow me into the mandir. I agreed, and then spoke with someone, to whom I explained that I wished to have Bhajan in Florida, and would like to have Udi sufficient to distribute for 40 people. The person went in to ask someone, and he came out followed by the temple priest. The priest said to me that he would give me udi for 100 people and not just for 40 people. Saying this he sent a young man to get me some Udi. The person came and gave me the Udi. I gave my thanks to Baba, the priest, the young man and the sentry. I decided to have the puja on 18 Jan, as it would be a weekend, and as it would give me time to prepare for that. In the mean time I was looking for someone who could help me with Bhajan. I started looking online, and found a Sai temple at Inverness, Florida. I sent them an email, and sent some other temple websites emails too. Surprisingly all the emails bounced back with some reason or the other, most of them since the email address was outdated. I then called the temple at Inverness, and spoke with the priest; he gave me a number to call. I called that number and got the answering machine. I cried, and said a prayer to Baba to help me. I slept and woke up. By the time I woke up, Mr.Sridhar Rangaswamy, whom I called and left a message for, had returned my call and left a message for me with my roommate who answered the call. She gave me the message. I called him up and spoke with him for a while. He works away from home, and generally does not check his home voice mail, and for some reason it seems he called his home and checked his voicemail and had returned my call. It was all Baba's Leela. Sridhar Uncle then helped me a lot in organizing the puja. He sent out emails to people he knew gave me phone numbers of many people and helped me every which way possible. I then got in touch with a Ms Sarala who lives in Gainesville. It happened to be Baba's Leela again that she was coming down to Ft.Lauderdale on the weekend of Jan 18th to see her daughter as it was to be her birthday on the 19th. She and her husband offered to do some Bhajan. In the mean while I also got in touch with Mr Durga Srinivas Alahari from Orlando and he offered to drive down and do the Naama japa. I was running low on money and was quite worried about the food and other arrangements. The night before the Pooja, a Sai devotee from nearby called as she saw a flyer that I put up at the Indian grocery store. She offered to bring some flowers. She came with her husband and her son, with lots of flowers and lots of fruit. I wanted to buy coconut laddoos but decided against them as I was not sure if I could afford them. Mr. Durga Srinivas Alahari's wife, Deepa called on the day of the pooja to say that she was bringing some Pulihara and some coconut ladoos, again Baba's Leela. She also brought some potato kurma and fried rice, Jaishree aunty made Halwa, and Mrs Sarala brought some curd rice and Chakkarpongali, a sweet dish. My friends had some samosas ordered. The puja went of well, people called from various parts of the country to wish me well, people whom I did not know, people who came to know of the Pooja from the Sai Vichaar, word of mouth and by Sridhar Uncle. It started in the morning from the Kakad Aarthi and went on until the Shej Aarthi. The Vishnu Sahasranaamam was read, the Satcharitha was read, The namavali was read, my friends who did not know about Baba were intrigued by his simplicity and open mindedness and miracles. The naama japa was excellent. Lead by Durga Srinivas Alahariji and his wife Deepa, devotees toke part in the japa with great fervor. I myself was surprised by the devotion and how all things came together that day. everyone present had a wonderful time, and went home with Baba's udi, prasad and picture. I was happy that Baba allowed me to have the Puja and allowed that to be a wonderful experience by bringing many of his children together and to spend it in reciting his name, and reading his glories.
